Fishing with Dynamite (1148 Manhattan Ave., Manhattan Beach, 90266; 310.893.6299) is a rowdy little oyster spot just steps from the pier from chef David LeFevre (M.B. Post). Designed by LeFevre’s friends Julie Fisher and Rachel Crowl of FC Studio, the 36-seat seafood spot captures the feel of a modern beachside cottage with bleached-white wood-paneled raw bar that’s topped with a vintage tub that will eventually hold chilled shellfish.
They are serving up Oysters (of course); Grilled Octopus with Tomato-Harissa-Date Chutney, White Beans and Preserved Lemons; Miso Alaskan Black Cod with Gingered Eggplant and Thai Basil; New England Style Manilla Clam Chowder with Nueskies Bacon; and Maryland Style Blue Crab Cakes with Housemade Pickles and Whole Grain Remoulade. Non-seafood dishes come in dishes like Flat Iron Steak with Shishito Peppers and Soy Lime Gastrique; and Crispy Pork Belly with White Corn Grits and Spiced Green Tomato Relish. For dessert, you can wash it all down with a blueberry-lemon shake.
Jerry Garbus, partner and beverage director of M.B. Post, is also overseeing the drinks here, with the addition of seafood-friendly beer and craft cocktails.
