Nick Mathers, one of the three Australian guys behind Eveleigh, has opened a new lunch and dinner place on W. Third Street called Goldie’s (8422 W. Third St., Los Angeles, 90048; 323.677.2470) and they are serve a simple menu highlighting sustainable practices and SoCal produce. Named after a neighborhood deli Mathers frequented in Sydney as a child, Goldie has big garage doors that separate the indoor/outdoor space, towering raw ceilings, maple, and some black picket-fencing. Overall, it’s an earthy feel.
Chef Thomas Lim is overseeing the seasonal kitchen. For breakfast, get some Handsome coffee and a breakfast roll with bacon, egg, tomato and braised greens. Or, try the Bircher Muesli with fruit, almonds, and yogurt (Lim makes his own yogurt).
During lunch, munch on avocado on house-baked bread with chili and lemon; a chicken confit salad; scallops with kohlrabi; kale salad (or tagliatelle); Boulder Valley beef coulotte with green tomatoes and Shear Rock greens; and a few grilled flatbread sandwiches. There’s also a pasta, a meat, and a fish. Most of Goldie’s dishes are prepared over a dual wood and coal-fired grill and the kitchen will also have a rotisserie to cook lamb, pig, and more.
The bar, which will serve during the week until 11 pm and on weekends until midnight (for now), is run by former ink. bartendress Brittini Rae Peterson. In addition to a strong craft cocktail program which will use house-made liqueurs like Amaratto, expect a cider on tap and eventually one cocktail on tap. Beer and mostly naturally-made wines, too.
Opens at 8 am, Monday-Friday and at 10 am for brunch (to come soon) on Saturday & Sunday.
