Barbershop Ristorante Italiano Opens in Former A.O.C. Space

Barbershop Ristorante Italiano, (8700 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, 90048; 424.272.5849) the successful pop-up restaurant by Chef Walter el Nagar (Michelin-starred La Botte) and partner Mario Vollera (Piccolo Venice; Antica Pizzeria), will return to West Hollywood to take over the former A.O.C. restaurant space.

Indulge in a prix-fixe menu with or without wine pairings at an exclusive “Chef’s Table,” serving only 16 diners per seating, (two seatings/night), plus one seating for Sunday brunch. Keeping with his style of traditional Italian technique paired with molecular gastronomy, Chef el Nagar will be serving his seven-course menu, plus chef amuse-bouches, for $75/person (exclusive of tax and gratuity) with wine pairings for an additional $45. For each weekly prix-fixe menu, Chef el Nagar will be incorporating grass-fed, dry-aged beef from Lindy & Grundy butcher shop, Santa Barbara spot prawns, meat ragu slow-cooked for 24 hours, and seasonal items from the Santa Monica Farmers Market.

You can also go a more casual route and dine at the wine bar on Wednesday-Saturday nights starting at 6 pm and Sundays starting at noon, where Mario Vollera will be serving a selection of three or four authentic pizza Napoletana from the restaurant’s wood-burning oven (priced at $15-28), as well as a selection of wines by the glass and hand-crafted beers.

Throughout the month, special guest chefs will be joining this third installment of Barbershop. On Wednesday, March 6,Chef Kevin Meehan (Kali Dining) will be working with Chef el Nagar on an eight-course prix fixe menu ($110). On Sunday, March 10, Chef Miguel Manrubia will be preparing a Spanish-style brunch ($75), and Chef el Nagar may also announce a special guest chef for a “crudo bar” still in the works.

Three guest sommeliers will also be making appearances for the prix-fixe dinners. On Friday, March 8, Andy Lynch from Wine Without Walls will be conducting the pairings, on Thursday, March 21, Joanie Karapetian a.k.a. “Italian Wine Geek” will be the guest sommelier, and on Friday, March 22, Blue Danube Wine Company’s Michael Newsome will be offering his selection of wine.
