New Cinespia Salon Screenings

Cinespia is bringing out smaller gems, rarely-screened experimental films, animation shorts, music documentaries and everything the weird and wonderful world of cinema has to offer.

Which means they are presenting a monthly salon, The Cinespia Salon Series, at The Cinefamily. It gives  a chance for passionate film lovers to come together and discover rare cinematic gold. Now, you can all meet in an informal atmosphere with patio parties and in-person guests.

This Thursday is the kick off with the Sublime Frequencies Collective. The Sublime Frequencies travels the world collecting field recordings (non-studio recordings of natives playing in situ) with a focus on the music of far off cultures. These rare documents of fragile traditions are lush, bizarre and beautiful. There’s no narration, so the images are set to the soundscapes of the region: a total sensory immersion.

Cinespia Salon welcomes filmmaker Olivia Wyatt, who will screen shorts from her travels in Ethiopia, and her latest feature The Pierced Heart and the Machete, a document of the voodoo pilgrimages in Haiti. There will be a Q&A with Olivia after too!

$12 tickets available at box office; $3 parking available across street at Fairfax High; DJ Carlos Nino spins music from around the globe before the movie; Thursday; Film at 7:30 pm; Cinefamily, 611 N Fairfax Ave.
