MessHall

MessHall, (4500 Los Feliz Blvd., Los Angeles, 90027; 323.667.6377) is a new, large cafeteria full of sunlight, sitting across the street from Little Dom’s and in the former Louise’s Trattoria. Officially opening Monday in Los Feliz.

Now, picture your junior high cafeteria…just cooler. Grab a spot on one of their communal tables in this large open space and order up some starters of corn fritters and steak tartare tacos. Main dishes include lobster mac ’n’ cheese; pork chops with cheddar grits; fried chicken and watermelon garnished with a piece of crispy fowl skin; crispy maytag blue salad, trout schnitzel; and the hog chop (a center cut pork chop with white cheddar grits, mustard greens and Tabasco butter). For dessert, try the adult s’more, scout cookie, with marshmallow and caramel or the peach cobbler built for two. There’s also an oyster bar! (my fav) The chef was at Dominick’s for years. As for drinks, grab a Downtime (whiskey, Cynar, Bénédictine and orange bitters)  or an Amanda (vodka, serrano, pineapple) from the corrugated-steel bar.

There’s a patio with a center fire pit and in a few weeks, the counter at the back will open early, so you, your laptop and your pup can wake up with Stumptown coffee or freshly squeezed juice. Breakfast, brunch and lunch menus are coming soon.
