Gorge, (8917 W Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, 90069; 310.657.6328) a rustic, intimate, Marie Antoinette–themed, French charcuterie house & wine bar and it’s opening today on the Sunset Strip. The name comes from when French soldiers used to scream “À la gorge” when they ran into battle. It means “To the throat.” Just go with it.
This spot goes against the grain of typical Sunset Strip venues. With rickety chairs, few tables, ornate tin ceilings, unfinished wood, a U-shaped bar and hints at Marie Antoinette, this place is low key and unfussy.
The menu highlights include a frisee salad with crisp shallot rings; chevre chaud salad with lavender brioche, organic greens, roasted pine nuts, honey balsamic vinaigrette, confit grape tomatoes; smoked oyster mousse with beef jus en gelée and baguette crisps; terrines (mackerel, vegetable, country or the rouget & noix de St. Jacques with whole scallops, red snapper, citrus reduction and fines herbes salad); house-made sausage like gordawg, morteau sausage, honey cornbread, house mustard, house ketchup; and beer sausage that is served cold with poached fingerling potatoes, choucroute and German mustard. Dessert includes a few versions of St. Honoré, a traditional French confection made from cream-filled puff pastry topped with whipped cream. You can wash it all down with craft beer and French wine.
Hours of operation will run Monday-Saturday from 6 pm-midnight.
