The Artisan House, (600 S Main St., Los Angeles, 90014; 213.622.6333) is soft opened with an official debut set for December 8th. This rustic spot offers something for everyone. Grab a drink or swing by the deli counter for a sandwich to go. Snag some wine for that holiday dinner party? Need household stuff? They have it all in this marketplace meets bar meets restaurant. With 24ft-high ceilings, hardwood floors and marble tabletops that were originally the building’s floor, this place has a very open, warehouse feel.
There are 8 menus. Yep, 8 and they have a Cali-Mediterranean vibe going on. Everything is fresh, local, with some veggies/herbs even from their rooftop garden. They have Brunch, Lunch, BYO Sandwich, All Day Foods, Dinner, Deli Blackboard, Deli Paper and Pastry. Sandwiches like a confit bluefin tuna with hard-boiled egg aioli, sun-dried tomato pesto & sage cheddar, and salads like Israeli couscous and pee wee potatoes are about $10, lunch plates like tagliatelle a la Bolognese or the fish du jour are $13-$19 and dinner entrees like duck prosciutto and pear flatbread with triple cream brie, and pan-seared scallops with mulled wine reduction are under $30.
If you want a little extra, set your sights on one of the four carts stocked with aperitifs, charcuterie and chocolates. They roll through the two dining rooms and a patio. Not into the carts? Head over to the separate retail section that stocks house-made private label goods like artisan sodas, organic wines, oils, dried fruits, preserves, and olives.
As for drinks, you can buy a bottle for home, or grab a spot at the 14-seater mahogany bar. They are serving liquid-nitrogen margaritas like the El Margarita that has a candied lime wheel & smoked paprika dust and Blood N Sands, which involve a big, gelatinous cube of scotch topped with orange foam, orange zest, drizzled cherry brandy and sweet vermouth reduction. Open Monday-Friday for lunch from 11:30 am-2:30 pm, seven nights a week for dinner from 5:30-10:30 pm, and Saturday & Sunday brunch from 9:30 am-2:30 pm. The bar is open daily from 11:30 am-1:30 am. The deli/market is open Sunday-Wednesday from 7 am-midnight, and Thursday-Saturday from 7 am-3 am.
