Wirtshaus

Wirtshaus (345 N La Brea Ave.; 323.931.9291) is an aunthetic German bar created by two German owners and a German chef, opening this Friday. They will have more than 30 German beers and wines.  The menu  features various versions of Schnitzel, sausages, potato pancakes and pretzels. There are vegetarian options and kid-friendly dishes too. Try their featured dessert,”Spaghettieis”, a German ice cream specialty that resembles a plate of spaghetti.

The indoor/outdoor “Biergarten” will also accommodate pets, featuring a separate doggie menu to include doggie pretzels, among other treats. Seating at Wirtshaus, both indoor and outdoor, will center around communal tables, and the indoor space features a long, L-shaped bar with additional seating. Directly adjacent to its lush patio, the restaurant also boasts a “game-room,” with a German-sourced ping-pong table, and they plan to host regular “Around The World” tournaments.

Look for happy hour in August, and regular game nights, specials surrounding sporting events, as well as multiple events during Oktoberfest, mid-September through early October. Open daily for lunch and dinner, from 11-12 am.

So if you can’t afford a trip to Germany any time soon, grab some serious German bites (not just sausage) here and wash it down with beers like Erdinger Weissbier, Franziskaner Hefe Weisse, and Gaffel Koelsch.
