Only months off of its grand opening, Cocina Condesa (11616 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, CA 91604; 818.579.4264) has staked its territory in the heart of Studio City, which was very much in need of a solid Taco Tuesday and Happy Hour. Let’s be honest- who isn’t?
Head chef Eddie Garcia draws on his Mexican roots and traditional Aztec dancing as inspiration for Cocina, and it comes through in the restaurant’s vibrant energy and signature take on street food. However at Cocina, the term “street food” really doesn’t do it justice. With a strong focus on bold flavors and fresh ingredients, Garcia’s one of a kind style comes through in each dish. You cannot go wrong with the wide selection of tacos, especially on Taco Tuesdays when they’re two for $5 starting at 5 pm, but the pulpo burracho dish (octopus drizzled with vinaigrette) is one of their more interesting appetizers. Also the ahi tuna tostaditos and the street corn on the cob were delicious but be careful-they are very addictive. For entrees, the carne asada steak was perfectly seasoned and tender. On top of that, they have happy hour every day from 3-6:30 pm, featuring discounted appetizers and amazing cocktails crafted by whiz David Rubin, and Mezcal Monday specials! Cocina Condesa’s combination of incredible recipes along with its fun vibe truly creates an experience fit for everyone.
