D’Vine Wine Cellar

Head to the basement of the O Hotel in DTLA for one of the sexiest spots to grab a great glass of wine and small plates. D’Vine Wine Cellar, (821 S. Flower St., Los Angeles, CA 90017; 213.784.3050) is a hidden wine bar with curved cement ceilings, dark lighting, communal tables, vintage chandeliers, and metal accents.

Storing wine in a cool climate is obviously, a perfect idea, but D’Vine, General Manager Jeremy Light has also made it the perfect setting for pouring, swirling, and toasting. You can find a quiet nook and look over a wine list with over 50 varietals of whites, reds, roses, sparkling wines, and on-tap labels from around the globe. And with prices from $7-13 by the glass and $30-130 by the bottle, you won’t go over your budget. If spirits are more your thing, they have grape-based spirits like brandy, absinthe, cognac, and pisco.

Once you have made your (first) selection, it’s time to dive into D’Vine’s food and shared plater offerings. They have an amazing charcuterie and cheese selection to pair with your wine. They also have mouth watering rilettes, tartines, vegetables (pickled or marinated), house-made pates, and desserts. We loved how everything tasted and was presented. With boards made from tree trunks, and jars of rilettes, you can see the care and artistry that went into each menu selection.

If you are unsure where to start, D’Vine has a small host of sommeliers; an enlightened group hired and trained by Light, who is a sommelier and wine enthusiast. They will offer tastes and steer you in the right direction. D’Vine is a subterranean space unlike and other DTLA spot. It’s a classy, cozy destination, perfect for any night of the week. As, Light explains, “A glass of wine one level down is the best way to level up.”
