Thanksgiving is about giving thanks. Here are some great ways to give back:

Gobble Gobble Give: It’s their 12th year of feeding, clothing and spreading joy to LA’s homeless on Thanksgiving Day. Everyone can help, from preparing food the night before, packaging/delivering or donating goods or money. Join over 700 volunteers at The Echo at 10 am on Thursday to lend a helping hand.  You’re done by 1 pm.

Food on Foot: This Hollywood-based non-profit still needs volunteers to deliver meals from 2-5 pm, warm sleeping bags and bus tokens to Hollywood’s homeless. Sign up quickly as spaces are running out for this Thanksgiving event!

Operation Gratitude: Donate materials, money or volunteer your time to prep care packages full of food, toiletries, books, movies, clothing and personal letters for people in the armed forces.

can do.: Through Wednesday the 24th, bring in 7 perishable food items to CB2’s Santa Monica or West Hollywood stores and save 15% on your in-store purchase.

Begslist: Donate money, goods and services directly to a “beg” posted by someone in need. As a donor, you’re able to scroll through posts until you find one to give to.

Now, we all know Thanksgiving (besides giving thanks) is about stuffing ourselves until we need to unbutton our top button….or take those pants off entirely. But an average number of calories in a Thanksgiving meal? 3,000! Start your Turkey Day on the right track with one of these calorie-burning runs:

XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot: Hit the trails through Topanga State Park. The 10K is already full, you can sign up here for the 5K ($40) or the 15K ($60).

Long Beach Turkey Trot: More than 6,000 runners participate in this beachside 5K. Registration is $40.

Lake Balboa Turkey Trot: Visit the valley for this 5K through Lake Balboa Park. Last-minute runners can pay $30 to register on Thursday morning.

Santa Monica Gobble Wobble: Post-Thanksgiving, work off that second helping of stuffing with this 5K on Saturday, November 27. Pay $35 to enter now, or $40 on race day.
