Montrésor Opens
Montrésor, Studio City’s newest French bistro with Executive Chef Paul Shoemaker in the kitchen, emulates the style of Paris in the 1920’s. Montrésor is from actress, producer and long-time restaurateur, Lisa Long, and designer and partner, Ann Booth Luly. Long and Booth Luly, decided to partner professionally to open Montrésor with Executive Chef Paul Shoemaker. Start the evening with appetizers including aBib Lettuce Salad with avocado, herbs and a tarragon cream dressing; French Onion Soup with house-made baguette croutons; Mussels in a garlic white wine sauce; or a Crab Cake with remoulade and frisée. Entrées include Black Truffle Winter Gnocchi with a Reggiano foam; Short Rib with a potato purée; Salmon served over a porcini ragu and Bloomsdale spinach; and 10 oz. Bone in Tenderloin Steak with potato pavé and tomato confit. Dessert includes French Profiteroles served with an almond toffee brittle, vanilla ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce, and Crème Brulée served with a savory pistachio biscotti. Montrésor has an eclectic wine list to perfectly pair with Chef Shoemaker’s menu. Enjoy the Château Haut Rian from Bordeaux or a glass of the Saint-Véran blend from Burgundy as each wine is offered by the glass. Enjoy a bottle of the Puligny Montrachet, the Château Monbousquet, or the Perrier Jouët “Belle Epoque” champagne. Prefer fruiter? Enjoy Northern California selections such as the Stags Leap Cellars Sauvignon Blanc, the Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay, and the beloved Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. Beer aficionados can also enjoy a bottle of Chimay “Grand Réserve Blue, Delirium Tremens, Bavik, Gavroche, Duchesse de Bourgogne or Saison Du Pont, and there is also a selection of American beers including the Allagash, Anderson Valley, Old Stock and Old Rasputin. Montrésor, which translates to “my treasure” in English, is tucked away on Ventura Boulevard and was designed with a 1920’s French theme in mind. A vintage refurbished headboard serves as one of the restaurant’s benches while the 8-foot reclaimed wooden doors are recycled from a winery in Orange County. Even the mannequin bodice lamp was recycled and crafted by Luly herself. Esters Wine Shop & Bar’s Monthly Guest Chef Burger Series is back
Back by popular demand, Esters has lined up for the 2018 iteration. Every Guest Chef Burger Night will go until burgers sell out. All burgers come with chips and are $19, with Esters working with the chefs to curate wine or beer pairings. This week, catch Jessica Largey, behind The Arts District’s forthcoming SIMONE, cooks up a burger with a mushroom-green garlic jam and spicy, fermented radishes, alongside sweet potato chips. SIMONE’s Beverage Director Jordan Egan is also pouring wines to pair with Jessica’s burger. The 2018 line-up includes: Chef Craig Thornton (March 27), known for his Wolvesmouth dinners and art installations, adds his artistry to the guest chef burger; Hinoki & The Bird’s Brandon Kida (April 10) brings a Japanese bar snack to life with his Okonomiyaki Burger, a double patty burger with sharp cheddar, pickled peppers, tomatoes and bonito mayo on a honey potato bun; Nancy Silverton (May 22) acclaimed restaurateur, chef and cookbook author behind Mozza Restaurant Group, serves up a decadent burger using peak-season ingredients. On Tuesday nights, when a guest chef isn’t cooking at Esters, you can still order Chef de Cuisine Chris Ono’s Grass-Fed Burger on a freshly-baked Milo & Olive brioche bun, topped with crisp butter lettuce, heirloom tomato, grilled red onions, American cheese and “Esters special sauce,” alongside house made BBQ chips for $16. Additionally, the burger is now available on weekends during brunch from 10 am-2:30 pm, and will be offered for lunch in the coming weeks. Scout Opens
Scout, a new neighborhood cafe and general store that incorporates local tastes with customizable dishes opens today. The fast-casual counter will give you the chance to enjoy gourmet eats, a generous coffee program from Portland-based Heart Coffee crafted by an Intelligentsia alumnus, smoothies teas, Kombucha and sweets from pastry chef Roxana Jullapat. To complement the culinary component, they also have items from Los Angeles-based including Shinola, Taschen, Aesop, Brendan Ravenhill, Boyce Studio, Dangerbird Records, Maya Brenner, Jacobsen Salt Co., Fort Standard, Sqirl, Le Labo, D Ceramics, and more. Breakfast options include Pumpkin Seed Granola with Greek yogurt, seasonal fruit, and local honey; Grain Bowl with peppered bacon, red quinoa, poached egg, red cabbage, radicchio, pickled red onion, roasted mushrooms, and chimichurri; House cured Salmon Toast with marinated cucumber, red watercress, lebneh, dill, red onion, and everything spice; Breakfast Burrito with scrambled egg, cheddar, bacon, pico de gallo, and avocado; the Lay Up with bacon, soft egg, cheese, aioli, arugula, lemon, friends and family toast; the Italian Breakfast with soft egg, pesto, marinated tomato, arugula, and parmesan; and Chocolate Toast with Nutella, bananas, choco crunchies, honey, and bee pollen. For lunch, or an early dinner to take home, sandwiches options include Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich with shredded iceberg, piquillo hot sauce, and house dills; Jambon Beurre with French ham, French butter, French breakfast radish, and cornichon spread on a fermented baguette; Turkey Sandwich with smoked turkey, shredded iceberg, tomato, avocado, lemon thyme aioli, sprouts, and hooks cheddar; the Grinder with mortadella, capicola, soppressata, provolone, shredded iceberg, tomato, onion, giardiniera, oregano vinaigrette, mayo, and mustard; and a Grilled Cheese Panini with Organic American cheese, and tomato confit. Wholesome options include a Vegan Wrap with heirloom quinoa, red onion, parsley, tahini, cucumber, arugula, and confit tomato; Kale Salad with Tahini dressing, red onion, avocado, crispy chic peas, cucumber, and garlic breadcrumbs; and Quinoa Tabbouleh with pearl quinoa, fine herbs, red onion, feta, green onion, arugula, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes. Teeling Whiskey Dinner at Tam O’Shanter
Tam O’Shanter will host a very special dining event featuring a four-course meal created by executive chef Juan Escamilla with select whiskey pairings for each dish from the award-winning Teeling Distillery. The whiskey pairing dinner will include: cocktails and canapés including shrimp toast avocado (paired with Teeling Single Grain Whiskey); entrées of Pork and beef ribs with jalapeño slaw, warm potato salad and house BBQ sauce (paired with Teeling Single malt); and a dessert of warm apple bread with pudding butterscotch caramel (paired with Teeling Small Batch).
