Wines are carefully crafted, resulting in vintages that are celebrated worldwide. Luca spent time learning the art of winemaking at some of California’s top wineries, including Simi Winery, Opus One, and Long Vineyards, as well as in France’s Bordeaux region at Mouton-Rothschild, before returning to his native homeland to join the family business in Piedmont. The six-course menu, which reflects Luca’s winemaking motto, blending contemporary with traditional, is created by Chef Eric Samaniego with wines selected by Sommelier Massimo Aronne.  The menu includes Per Cominciare, traditional Piemontese fondue with roasted winter vegetables paired with 2015 Roero Arneis; Carne Cruda, raw beef tenderloin sliced with lemon, olive oil, shallots and Parmigiano paired with 2011 Barbera D’Asti “La Crena”; Tajarin “40 Tourli”, house-made 40 egg yolk pasta with veal sugo paired with 2012 Barolo “Castiglione”; Brasato al Barolo, braised Piemontese beef, polenta, and cardoons paired with 2012 Barolo “Lazzarito”; Formaggiowith Castelmango, Honey, hazelnuts paired with 2015 Freisa Vivace; and Biscotti Piemontesi $125; Monday, 6:30 pm; 5620 E 2nd St, Long Beach, CA 90803; 562.439.7080; reserve: opentable.com.

Burns also is known throughout the world for writing the Scottish folk classic, Auld Lang Syne. Dr. Neil MacLeod hosts the event at The Tam and has been doing so for 32 years. During the celebration, the Haggis is served using a sword to cut the meat and you will drink out of goblets. There will be a playful take on Burns’ poetry, as read by actress Koni McKurdy.
