Oozefest
Cheese lovers get excited! Southern California’s cheese festival has over 40 food and drink vendors featuring custom delicious, cheesy items exclusive to the festival. Farmer’s Daughter Hotel Hosts Charity Art Event
Farmer’s Daughter Hotel will host “Artsy Tartsy,” a one-night benefit art raffle with all proceeds benefiting at-risk youth through local L.A. organizations Get Lit* and LA Youth Network**. During the event, you will enjoy food and drinks courtesy of the hotel’s on-site restaurant TART, as well as live DJs including special guests Raul Campos from KCRW and DJ Garth (WICKED, SF), art display and an artwork raffle. Caffeine-Free Coffee in Venice
Get ready for a 10-day coffee pop-up on Abbot Kinney from Swiss Water. They will be hosting a decaf party in Venice beginning this Friday. The party will showcase the company’s ability to take beans from your favorite roaster and decaffeinate them without losing the flavor. DTLA Breweries United Fest
DTLA’s Arts District is now home to seven craft breweries, along with spirit distillers, fresh pressed juicers and kombucha cultivators. In celebration of this beverage bounty, the first-ever DTLA Breweries United Fest, a block party, hosted by DTLA Breweries United, will take place in the triangle lot just outside Angel City Brewery, the Breweries United Fest will feature locally produced spirits, beer, juices, kombucha and of course – tacos (because, LA)!  The event benefits Keep A Breast, an Arts District-based organization empowering young women around the world with breast health education and support. Featured beers will include Angel City Brewery’s 2015 Jameson Ale, Iron Triangle Brewing’s Mulholland’s Stash Barleywine, a tart saision from Indie Brewing Co., and Dry River Brewing’s Parasol Pink. Arts District Brewing Co.Boomtown Brewery, and Mumford Brewing will also pour a selection of crowd favorites, alongside some special releases. Spirit tastings will come courtesy of both The Spirit Guild, makers of Astral Pacifica Gin and Vapid Vodka, and Green Bar, makers of TRU Organic Vodka, TRU Organic Gin, IXA Organic Tequila, CRUSOE Organic Rum, Fruitlab Organic Liqueor and Barkeep Bitters. Plan Check Kitchen + Bar Santa Monica Opens
This week, Owner and Founder, Terry Heller opens the doors to his fourth location of Plan Ckeck in Santa Monica. To celebrate the history of commercial fishing in Santa Monica, Heller and his culinary team—lead by Executive Chef Sean Yontz—curated a selection of seafood-focused appetizers and entrées including Chowder Fries with housemade clam chowder, bacon, celery, and steamed little neck clams; Nashville Hot Fish Sandwich made with crisp mahi-mahi, Kaffir lime slaw, kombu pickles, and cayenne; Plan Check Lobster Roll made with Kewpie mayo, gochujang, shallots, Key lime, and chives; Korean Cioppino made with mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, gochujang, and a soju bomb; Hamachi Crudo; Lobster Pot Pie; Seafood Platter with lobster, shrimp, calamari, mussels, clams, yuzu cocktail, and tartar sauce; and Key Lime Pie Donut with lime curd, toasted meringue, and graham cracker crumbs, fried to order. Da Kikokiko Opens
Restaurateurs and chefs Brooke Williamson and Nick Roberts are debuting their fourth restaurant, Da Kikokiko, a casual, neighborhood-friendly Hawaiian concept. Located at the new retail and shopping destination Runway Playa Vista and meaning “the spot” in Hawaiian, the restaurant embodies Playa Vista’s laidback, beachside lifestyle. Celebrating the island’s biggest street foods, Da Kikokiko features three main menu items: poké, shave ice, and musubi. Da Kikokiko offers musubi made traditionally with grilled SPAM on top of a block of rice, and wrapped with dried nori seaweed, plus innovative twists with contemporary protein and vegetable options like teriyaki chicken, yuzukosho salmon, and sesame miso zucchini. Customizable poké bowls are available with a variety of base mixes, proteins, sauces, and toppings to select from like a grain blend and seaweed and bean thread noodle salad, Lomi-Lomi salmon, octopus, sweet fermented chili shoyu and yuzu kosho sauces, crushed wasabi peas, tobiko (flying fish roe) and sweet pickled Shiitake mushrooms. Da Kikokiko’s signature poké bowls include: Yellowfin Tuna with spicy mayo, scallion, shaved serrano, smelt egg, furikake, and tempura crumbs; and Octopus with yuzu kosho, kimchi, edamame, scallion, ogonori, cilantro, and sesame. Plus, enjoy shave ice with house made organic syrups like hibiscus-currant, mango-jasmine, yuzu, matcha, Kona coffee, and pineapple, along with toppings such as li hing mui (salty dried plum) powder and condensed milk.
