Terrine Debuts Versus
Terrine’s Head Bartender Ryan Wainwright unveils VERSUS, a monthly cocktail battle with Los Angeles’ best bartenders. One night per month, Wainwright will engage in a little friendly competition behind Terrine’s copper bar with city’s most prolific bar talent (individuals or teams), creating menus surrounding the month’s theme, from secret ingredients to seasonal sips. This week, see Wainwright battling it out with Belcampo’s Una Green. Wainwright and Green asked four local cocktail enthusiasts to each pre-select one ingredient—alcohol or otherwise—that they would like to see in drink format. Each bartender will be present one drink that embodies each ingredient, for a menu of eight drinks total available exclusively that night. You can vote for your favorites on the spot, helping Wainwright or Green win glory and bragging rights. Big Bar’s Cari Hah will be on Tuesday, October 18); Thanksgiving-themed tipples with Karen Grill from The Bon Vivants will be on Tuesday, November 15; and an “evil” Christmas showdown with Beau du Bois (The Corner Door) and Michael Lay (Broken Spanish/B.S. Sofitel Wine Days
In celebration of the traditional wine harvesting in France, Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, in partnership with Hillside Wine and Spirits, will host Sofitel Wine Days. Throughout the series, you can partake in several wine-focused events and experience flavors from abroad. The series of initiatives will celebrate French wine with two distinct tasting events highlighting each of France’s six wine regions. On October 3, Riviera 31 in the Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills will host Jazz + Wine night and promote their special wine cocktail “Afternoon in Paradise” featuring Sauvignon Blanc, grapefruit, lime, Mixwell and grapefruit soda priced at $10 for the evening. On October 20, the largest of the wine initiatives will take place in partnership with the Los Angeles Wine Tasting Association where California and France will meet at Estérel at Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. The event will include wine discussions, wine flights, a wine pairing menu and other wine oriented activations. Throughout the duration of the month-long festivities, Sofitel Los Angeles’ Wine Days can be enjoyed at the hotel’s restaurant, Estérel and garden patio, Le Jardin, with a menu and great regional pairing of wines such as Montmatre, Moillard, Chateau Haut, Child Playand Hoopla vineyards. The curated wine pairing menu, priced at $39, includes a starter of Roasted Scallops, with braised baby leek, peanut potato, smoked pancetta, and pluot gastrique; main course of Grass fed New York with grilled broccolini, royal trumpet mushroom, and heirloom cherry tomato relish; desserts of Chocolate Mousse Pyramid, gianduja, chocolate sponge, and white chocolate drops; and a wine tasting (additional $15 for 2 tasting of wine) Moillard Bourgogne Chardonnay 2014 and Moillard Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2014. Plan Check’s “Comfort Masters” Guest Chef Dinner Series
This September – December, Plan Check Kitchen + Bar (Sawtelle, Fairfax, Downtown, and soon-to-open Santa Monica) launches Comfort Masters, a lineup of exclusive pop-up dining events created by owner/founder Terry Heller and longtime travel and food tastemaker Andy Wang in collaboration with mobile app and web-based dining guide, Table8. The Comfort Masters series will feature meals by acclaimed chefs, up-and-comers, those without brick and mortar and some who’ve never cooked in Los Angeles. The limited-run events will be a unique showcase of new concepts and a celebration of indie culture. This week, Jeremie and Nissa Banet take their food truck brick-and-mortar for a night of French sandwiches and foie gras. Downtown Film Festival

Pitchoun! Bakery‘s Wine Tasting Event
In honor of California Wine Month, Pitchoun! Bakery is hosting celebratory tasting event. The authentic French bakery, best known for its artisan breads and fine pastries, will transform into an elegant fine wine bar, serving a selection of six California wines from the Sonoma and Santa Barbara region. You will have the chance to taste the hand-picked wine selection, and the small bites and shareable platters of selected dry meats and salami, cheeses, homemade terrines, antipasti selections will be available to pair with the wine. Registration here.
