Crab Shell Bar’s One Year Anniversary
The revival of the Crab Shell Bar in the downstairs of the Venice Whaler nearly a year ago, included a all-new look, culinary team and bar program. The Venice Whaler rings in the one year anniversary of the famous seaside-watering hole (since 1944) by rolling out a new dining and cocktail menu! New dishes include a Maine Lobster Roll, a Grilled Ahi Tuna Sandwich, and a Shrimp Po’Boy. There’s also the Calabrian Queen, topped with sausage, red onion and chili flakes, and the Hot Mamacita with Fresno chiles, sausage, garlic, onion and cilantro atop a cream sauce. Heavier dishes include the Chicken Ricotta Meatballs in a creamy San Marzano tomato sauce and the Black Angus Mini Cheeseburgers on sweet Hawaiian rolls with a “special sauce” including cornichons and Tabasco. To keep that beach, bikini body, order the Kale Salad of greens with a lemon vinaigrette, sliced grapes and flax seeds. Dessert options are the Baked in Venice, with burnt meringue-coated sponge cake, ice cream and raspberry coulis, and a classic Chocolate Profiterole featuring cream puffs stuffed with chocolate and vanilla ice cream. The newest cocktails are plays on classics: The Chamomile Mai Tai is made with a chamomile-infused light rum, orgeat, Curaçao and Wray & Nephew rum, and the Citrus Pisco Sour features a citrus-infused pisco and house-made cinnamon bitters. Plus, they are offering a monthly cocktail class that is free and open to the public (Visit Facebook for details). Brunch menu here. Outdoor Courtyard Concerts with Pop-ups from One Colorado Restaurants
Every Saturday night in August, they feature a live concert from one of LA’s best and brightest, ranging from Brazilian to Blues, R&B and soul to Americana with an Appalachian twang, and pop psychedelia with a familiar folk flavor. Limited seating is open; standing and dancing totally acceptable and encouraged. And you can make a great night even greater with mixtures for merriment from our pop-up bars and a bevy of American, Japanese or Italian nibbles and noshes from One Colorado restaurants. This Saturday, listen to Rose’s Pawn Shop, whose Appalachian and Americana music comes from five guys from Los Angeles. Singer-songwriter Paul Givant grew up in the Rock, Punk, Country, Pop, and Rap worlds of LA’s textured music scene, and it was American Folk and Bluegrass that rooted deepest. With a little help from Craigslist, Givant met Stephen Andrews, John Kraus, Tim Weed and Christian Hogan, the band Rose’s Pawnshop was born. They combine the old style American sounds of Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe, and Hank Williams with a high energy approach more reminiscent of modern Alt-Rock and a deeply melodic songwriting sensibility. With a cache of guitars, banjo, upright bass, fiddle and drums, their sound is a wholesome combo of mud, rusty nails and your mama’s cookin’.
