SunCafe’s New Vegan & Organic Beverage Program

Studio City’s plant-based hotspot SunCafe (10820 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, CA 91604; 818.927.4100) just got a little “cooler” with the release of their new Beverage Program focused on a collection of vegan, organic, and unique cocktails, wines and rare brews.

SunCafe’s Wine List includes 38 wines and bubblies, 20 of which are available by the glass. Months of extensive research was done to ensure that everything in the beverage program was produced using organic farming and production methods, even if they are not all certified organic. Their rotating selection of beers on tap (9 or 10 daily varieties), as well as a varied list of over 16 bottled brews and seasonal ciders, are going to please, both, vegans and carnivores.

Beer fanatics can also indulge in SunCafe’s exclusive Reserve Beer List, featuring a rare assortment of world-renowned brews. This collection currently ranges from Almanac’s Dark Brown Ale Pumpkin Sour at $12 a bottle, to a brown ale that is aged in used Sonoma County Pinot Noir barrels from Russian River Brewing Co. named Supplication, and a Black Cap Raspberry Sour/Wild Ale from Portland’s Cascade brewery at bottle $40 per 750 ml bottle. The list will change frequently, as quantities are extremely limited.

There is also a list of bottled ciders, including two of the ciders from Sonoma, CA that are exclusively made using Gravenstein apples and two from Anthem, by way of Oregon.

There is also a distinct collection of SunCafe Sangrias that highlight the eatery’s organic fresh-squeezed fruit and vegetable juices. Developed by Bartender Michael Barret, the pair of sangrias on the list are set to change seasonally: The Rosa Grenada Sangria is a non-traditional sangria, featuring a rouge from Languedoc, France blended and flavored with seasonal pomegranate and rosemary from the local Farmers Market. There is also a Sidra Blanca Sangria made with Early Harvest Sonoma Apple Cider, crisp apples, a white blend from Languedoc, France, rounded out with the warmth of harvest spices including cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.

Suncafe’s Cocktails include the Elderflower Bellini, which adds St. Germain and Peychaud’s Bitters to the mix of peach and Prosecco, and the Michelada, a traditional spicy Mexican mix of organic, fresh squeezed tomato juice, peppers, lime and spices with pale ale. Rounding out the list is the Carosello Cooler, which combines artichoke-based liqueur Cynar, a sour beer from Belgium, mint and lemon.

For those of you who want “Mocktails,” The St. Petersburg has mint syrup, lemon, spicy ginger beer and the Root 66 combines fresh organic carrot juice with ginger beer.
