24 Hours of Coffee: Hope Rising

Indulge in a Bottomless Brunch prior to the annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles. Hero Shop
Though Eric Park has “53rd and 6th Halal Lamb & Rice” as a dish at ROOTS by Black Hogg, his DTLA spot, Hero Shop, is giving an homage to the NYC street meet starting this week. Though soft open last night, hundreds of people lined up to get a taste of some lamb & rice and chicken & rice, seasoned just like they do in Midtown. At the moment, the street meat is offered from 7-10 pm, Wednesday-Saturday, though late night hours are in the works. The 5th Annual ‘Taste of the Pier’

Green Porno at NHM
NHM welcomes Isabella Rossellini for a special live performance of Green Porno, based on the hit Sundance web series. Written by Jean-Claude Carrière, the offbeat, whimsical show investigates sex through the lens of the natural world, observing mating rituals of animals from pachyderms to insects. The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity’s fall fundraiser, “Creativity Season: A Loony Masquerade” will be an ‘Un-Gala,’ all about sampling creativity. Activities will include the performance poetry of Jacqueline Suskin, caricatures by Naylene, hands-on animation, guitar-playing, mask-making, a photo booth by Pasquale, and painting a mural that will beautify the Orange County Zoo. In addition to those art stations, creative culinary delights will be provided by 24 Carrots, CeCe La Crème, Susan Heaton and more. Andrea Nguyen at Grand Central Market
Viet World Kitchen’s Andrea Nguyen, acclaimed author of The Banh Mi Handbook, for a food tasting and recipe showcase featuring variations on the Vietnamese sandwich banh mi. Using ingredients from Market vendors, including carnitas from Villa Moreliana, Nguyen will demonstrate and offer tastings of different banh mi sandwiches, using recipes pulled from her cookbook. Artisanal LA
There are some notable new vendors at the Fall event, including Semolina pasta a pasta company that’s using Artisanal to launch their product. Others include: QUIN candy from Portland made with local organic ingredients; Buttermilk, Inc. makers of pancake and baking mixes; Stowaway Ginger Beer, along with book signings from Zoe Nathan and Josh Loeb, of Huckleberry. Fishtank Ensemble at One Colorado Courtyard Old Pasadena
October means the Courtyard is filled with music by rising, peripatetic and/or LA-based bands with all-ages, free concerts. The LA Weekly calls Fishtank Ensemble “…one of the most thrilling young acts on the planet.” Formed in 2005 and playing everywhere from LA clubs to festivals, cultural centers, museums, parades and even on the street, the gypsy jazz band includes two violins, opera, a slap bass player, musical saw, Flamenco and Gypsy jazz guitar and vocals and one little banjolele.
