Salt & Straw Ice Cream Shop

Salt & Straw, (240 N. Larchmont Blvd., Los Angeles; 323.466.0485) Portland’s artisan ice cream brand known for its innovative, small batch and handmade flavors, opens its first Los Angeles scoop shop this Saturday in Larchmont Village. Owner Kim Malek and Head Ice Cream Maker Tyler Malek, the cousins behind the brand, will unveil the company’s fourth location and first brick and mortar outside of Portland with a menu of Salt & Straw favorites fans know and love, as well as a new seasonal series showcasing uniquely local flavors.

The new shop, designed by Portland’s Osmose Design, has a modern-day mercantile feel and the artisan spirit of Salt & Straw with one-of-a-kind elements like a carved wooden storefront, handmade paper and plaster ceiling tiles, hand painted light fixtures and a window bar with stools for seating. Since their start, the Maleks have become known as much for their creative, indulgent flavors and dedicated fans as for their support of the local community, a tradition they hope to carry on in Los Angeles.

For the Larchmont location, all ice creams served will be handmade in Los Angeles using local cream from family-owned dairy, Rockview Farms. They plan on using sweet almonds from Kern County, peaches from Burkart Organic Farms in Dinuba, CA, Butter & Salt doughnuts from Sidecar Doughnuts and GRAND POPPY liqueur from Greenbar Distillery in DTLA. New flavors will continue to debut on the first Friday of each month to feature collaborations and seasonal produce. In addition, an original menu of sundaes, whole pint milkshakes and floats pair Salt & Straw ice cream with some of Kim and Tyler’s favorite artisanal ingredients from Portland and Los Angeles.

They will offer single scoops in handmade waffle cones, cups or organic sugar cones for $4.25, double scoops for $6.25 and kids scoops for $3.25.

Open daily, 10 am-11 pm.
