Grand Central Market

Almost ashamed to admit it, but the Grand Central Market has been in Los Angeles since 1917, and it’s only my first time visiting. Either way, I picked a good time – they have officially added breakfast to the menu, bringing in G & B coffee, Valerie at GCM from the acclaimed Valerie’s Confections, along with several others, including my personal favorite, EggSlut, from food truck fame. (By the way, I think I found my new DJ name.)

With adding premiere breakfast options, Grand Central Market’s vision of being a one stop shop where you can start your morning off with a cup of coffee, grab a bite and mingle with friends, and then get groceries for the week is becoming realized. If your groceries include a handle of bourbon, you’re still covered.

Although some had some hesitations about the provocatively named EggSlut being located so prominently street side on Broadway, traipsing around like, you know, an egg slut, the line out the door put an end to that quickly. Other notable additions: Sticky Rice, Jose Chiquito, DTLA Cheese, and Press Brothers Juicery, the only certified organic juicer in LA. Things to try: the salted caramel croissant topped with fleur-de-lis along with their silver dollar pancakes with maple syrup infused butter, (they improved butter!) from Valerie’s, the PorkSlut from EggSlut (of course), and the “kanom pang jee” from Sticky Rice, Thai coconut macaroon made from rice.  And if you’re hung over? Try the “Drop Acid” juice from Press Brothers.
