Larry’s New Cocktails

Venice’s Larry’s (24 Windward Ave., Venice, CA  90291; 310.399.2700) celebrates artist, Larry Bell, the pioneer of the California minimalist movement. It was Bell’s work and dedication to the Venice community that inspired Larry’s, which became known for its food, global wine selection and 26 draft beers. Get excited, because they have now acquired their new liquor license, which means the launch of a full bar and nine fabulous new cocktail creations crafted by Jennifer Lane Oakley of Waterloo & City and Black Market in Studio City!

Cocktails include the Sun Poison, a gin drink accented with falernum, passion fruit, orgeat, lime and orange bitters; the Bourbon County Lullaby has Bulleit bourbon, Miracle Mile gingerbread bitters and vanilla bean; The Field Trip, with rum, Angostura bitters, orgeat, lemon and root beer; the Sleepy Jean has vodka, Crème de banana, lemon and sugar; the Epitaph, with tequila, roasted red pepper, lemon, agave and cucumber inside a tumbler with a habanero-chipotle salted rim; the Emeryville with vodka, fresh basil, cinnamon syrup, grapefruit juice and lime; the Real Voodoo Stuff with El Dorado 12-year rum, tobacco brown sugar, a Laphroaig scotch rinse and lime zest; and the #Delicious, which includes rum, coconut cream, lemon and fresh pineapple, along with a red wine float.

Oakley’s cocktails are also are meant to compliment Collins’ fabulous new bar menu. One fun new dish is the Pork Belly BLT.  The pork belly has been braised and is super tender. It’s seasoned with homemade BBQ sauce, so it’s almost like a Sloppy Joe with bacon, tomatoes and fresh lettuce. Other nibbles include the Crispy Cauliflower with Thai chili sauce, burrata cheese and basil; Deviled Duck Eggs with duck salami and pickle ginger; the Chargrilled Chicken Liver and Bacon Skewers with Yakitori sauce; and Shrimp and Lobster Tacos with green curry aioli, tomato and basil salad. Full menu here.
