Salt & Straw at Joan’s on Third

Salt & Straw, a Portland based ice cream shop known for their hand-made, small-batch, artisan ice cream it now being served at Joan’s on Third. To celebrate, this Friday, Founder Kim Malek and Head Ice Cream Maker Tyler Malek will be onsite debuting their new Los Angeles inspired flavor as well as their signature Oregon flavors. Flavors include:

Meyer Lemon Buttermilk Custard with Blueberries
Utilizing the citrus and berries available throughout the LA Farmer’s Markets, this dense custard is tart from fresh buttermilk and California Meyer lemons. To bring the flavors together, a sweet ribbon of blueberry jam cuts through the custard making it a delicious combination!

Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons
Developed with salt expert Mark Bitterman, writer of the James Beard Award winning book “Salted” and owner of Portland’s artisan salt shop The Meadow, this flavor is made with The Meadow’s Fleur de Sel and ribboned with homemade, hand-burned caramel.

Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache
At Salt & Straw, they took their grandma’s almond brittle recipe to the next level with their own, house-made, perfectly soft, chocolatey ganache.

Chocolate Gooey Brownie
This is chocolate ice cream is simple and indulgent. They teamed up with Portland’s Holy Kakow Chocolates to make a base that is straight forward and chocolatey and then added their house-baked brownies that have marshmallow fluff folded in to keep them extra gooey.

Coffee & Bourbon
Stumptown’s Single-origin Sumatra coffee is mixed with a little bit of Portland’s Holy Kakow Chocolate and a lot of Burnside Bourbon from Eastside Distillery (crafted locally on Portland’s famous “Distillery Row”) for this delicious flavor.

Cinnamon Snickerdoodle
Made with Red Ape Cinnamon in Eugene, OR, this is a spicy-sweet blend. Red Ape also donates a part of the proceeds to save the orangutans in Sumatra where the cinnamon is harvested. Their house baked Snickerdoodle cookies are the perfect pairing for this perfectly spicy ice cream.
