Invention at Los Angeles Athletic Club

You could head to the Los Angeles Athletic Club and work out for your summer bod or you can head to the third floor for a club called Invention (431 W 7th St., Downtown; 213.630.5200). Revamped by architect, Tracy Beckmann, there’s a well-stocked bookcase, well-stocked pub-style bar, and a giant flat-screen TV (streaming the Kentucky Derby for their viewing party on May 4th).

Cocktails come from Marcos Tello and Aiden Demarest. Order up a Pegu Club with gin and juice named after a gentleman’s club in Burma. Then snack on bacon-wrapped dates, antipasto, or lamb meatballs. You don’t have to be a club member to enjoy the perks of Invention: Social memberships are $250 to join with $80 per month dues. If you are a LAAC member, it’s free.
