Sometimes you got to go with a classic. You can’t go wrong with a sandwich to cure any hunger pains you may have. Don’t grab just any sandwich though, get yourself to one of these eateries for a sandwich that is going to blow your mind!

Forage
Forage is the perfect spot for a sandwich (or a salad). Utilizing local produce, this place fills its counter with fresh salads (the fatuoush is amazing), and sides. Alright, alright…this is a sandwich post right? Well, they’re known for their pork-belly sandwich, but also a winner, the avocado sandwich. Served on a grilled baguette with a spicy slaw and a touch of garlic, it’s a vegetarian bite you’ll find yourself craving. 3823 W Sunset Blvd.; 323.663.6885

Bay Cities Italian Deli and Bakery
This was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Los Angeles five years ago. You can’t compile a sandwich list without the “Godmother.” It’s a staple for Westsiders looking for an Italian roll filled with layers of Genoa salami, mortadella, coppacola, ham, prosciutto, and provolone. Get it with “the works,” and you won’t regret it. Just make sure to order online, or get there early in the morning because around noon, the line at the deli counter can be a few dozen people deep. 1517 Lincoln Blvd.; 310.395.8279

Porto’s Bakery
Known for their pastries (get a cheese roll with your sandwich), Porto’s also serves some delicious sandwiches. Go for the traditional pressed Cubano, with ham, pickles, and Swiss cheese. Served with fried banana chips, it’s a unique twist on the classic. 315 N Brand Blvd.; 818.846.9100

Bäco Mercat
The chef behind the Lazy Ox has brought his eclectic flavors to the world of sandwiches. Home of the “bäco,” the signature flatbread is served in its original sandwich form, but they also roll it thin and bake it crispy with toppings — inspired by the Spanish version of pizza, called “coca.” If you feel like going full force on flavor, order “The Original,” a combination of pork, beef carnitas, salbitxada (a tomato sauce made with almond, garlic, and herbs). 408 S Main St.; 213.687.8808

Simplethings Sandwich and Pie Shop
The delicate little pies, known as “cutie pies,” may take center stage (try the banoffee), but the variety of sandwiches are not to be missed. The Fried Chix, a fried chicken breast topped with coleslaw, tomato, tabasco mayo on an onion focaccia roll is a perfect lunch. It has a bit of heat and crunch in every bite. Langer’s Deli
Of course, this classic, Los Angeles deli had to be on the list. For pastrami on rye, this is your spot. The rye bread is perfectly soft, with a crunch of the crust. The sweet and peppery pastrami is melt-in-your mouth tender. Then, the coleslaw perks everything up with its light freshness. 704 S Alvarado St.; 213.483.8050

All About the Bread
An updated version of the classic Italian deli, this spot says the secret to their epic sandwiches lies in the fresh dough that they bake every thirty minutes. Order the Meatball, it’s super savory with a hint of spice, and hugged in a thick slice of melted provolone and bright marinara. 7111 Melrose Ave.; 323.930.8989
