The Pikey Brunch & Lunch

A few months ago, The Pikey (7617 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, 90046; 323.850.5400) replaced one of Sunset’s dive bars, Coach & Horses. This upscale British gastro-pub has a vintage feel that hints to aesthetics you can see it some sister bars (Bar Lubitsch, Roger Room). Look close, you’ll find tchotchkes, flags, portraits of kings and black-and-white photos of tattooed gangsters in the dining room

The restaurant has just started serving lunch and brunch, featuring pastries that are made in house, full English breakfasts and some classic breakfast dishes with a twist. Not to mention, a full menu of British cocktails. You will want to try them all. We feasted on Coffee Creme filled Donuts; Cinnamon Rolls; Crumpets with Honeycomb & Clotted Cream; Brioche French Toast with Stone Fruit & Crème Fraiche; Cured Arctic Char with Scrambled Eggs, Biscuit & Hollandaise; Egg in the Hole with House Smoked Bacon & 100% Pure Maple Syrup; Curry on Toast with a Fried Duck Egg; Fried Eggs, Pork Sausage, Bacon, Beans, Roasted Tomato & Mushroom with Grilled Toast; Slow Roasted Pork Belly Sandwich with Horseradish Cream.

Some of the favorite included the Brioche French Toast; Cured Arctic Char with Scrambled Eggs and the Full English Breakfast. Brioche French Toast was unlike any French toast I have had. It wasn’t too sweet. It was slightly sweet and salty. The crème fraiche balanced perfectly with the toast and fruit. The Cured Arctic Char was almost like a creamy lox. It was savory and satisfying. Lastly, the full English is has a general reputation of being bland, but not here. The fried egg, pork sausage, bacon, beans, roasted tomato and mushroom on grilled toast had so much flavor. You will be satisfied and full.

As for cocktails, they don’t mess around when it comes to Bloody Marys. Delish! Some new tastes that I tried were the Pims Cup(sweet and refreshing) and the crowd favorite was the Guvnor with slow gin and bitters. It was surprisingly smooth. Either way, you can’t go wrong with nay of their cocktails.
