Oldfield’s Liquor Room

Opening Friday, Oldfield’s Liquor Room (10899 Venice; Culver City; 310.842.8066, ) takes over the former Saints & Sinner’s location on Venice Blvd. The brasserie-style bar with subway tiles on the wall, tiled floors and a massive wood bar flown in from Wisconsin, is an ode to Barney Oldfield, a famous 1900s speed racer who was the first to hit 60 mph. He was a lifetime hero of the owner.

As for food, brought to you by a waitress who looks like Dita Von Teese, there are a few seasonal tapas and this month include: Thick-cut fra’ mani ham with black cherry jam and farm butter, Challerhocker cheese with rosemary and apricot mostarda, valhrona bittersweet chocolate with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt.

Equally thrilling, the full cocktail list has a vintage twist giving another nod to Barney Oldfield. To name a few: Oldfield’s Hemmingway $12, Blitzen Benz $11 (cynar, maraschino, fresh lemon, egg white, peychauds bitters), Blonde Comet $10 (Elijah Craig 12 Year Bourbon, Mathilde Peche, grapefruit), Lovetta $11 (Hayman’s Old Tom Gin, Campari Fruitlab Orange, Limoncello), or try a Punch Bowl. The Standing 8 Punch (Hardy VSOP, Plymouth Sloe Gin, Housemade Falernum, fresh juices, champagne and seasonal spices) or the Shrub Punch (Hayman’s Old Tom Gin, creole shrub, blackberry and rosemary shrub, fresh juices and champagne) are $75/bowl and Serve 8.
